Probability & impact matrix
A probability and impact matrix is a risk register that scores each identified risk by how likely it is to occur and how severe its consequences would be, so risks can be prioritized by that combined score.
The core move is multiplying (or otherwise combining) probability and impact into a single score per risk, then setting a mitigation-required threshold above which a risk demands an active response rather than passive monitoring. This keeps limited attention pointed at the risks that matter most, instead of treating every entry on a risk list as equally urgent. Kanbai's version, drawn from the 17-book project-management corpus (PMBOK and Project Management for the Unofficial Project Manager), stores a structured risk register — one row per risk, each carrying its own probability, impact, owner, response, and trigger fields, plus a configurable mitigation-required threshold — rather than a single free-text blob. It's one of Kanbai's seven corpus-grounded instruments, fillable per-project or standalone with no account, exporting as Markdown either way. The matrix's natural companion is the risk strategy tool, which takes the highest-scoring risks the matrix surfaces and turns each into a concrete response plan.
